| WesLife | Life as a CrossFitter

This is a blog about my daily life...the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am an athlete at heart and love CrossFit. CrossFit has changed my life and I am in the best shape physically and mentally because of it. Make a difference, put others before you. Share your knowledge, and live life by learning.

I'm training under the OPT Big Dawgs "Being" program. I used to follow this program back in 2011 before I stopped training. Back on the program and feel great. Looking forward to the CrossFit Games Open.

Currently trying to spread the word of health and fitness on a small scale with close friends by doing some CrossFit in Playgrounds in Hong Kong. To promote it we started a facebook page, check it out if you have time!

This past sunday I played in a badminton tournament that was hosted by Badmintology Vancouver (BV). This group is made up of a bunch of friends that play badminton and made a “fun first” mantra towards badminton tournaments that accommodates all skill levels, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. They have done a wonderful job and now in their third year of existence they are already getting 200+ entries per tournament!

So a little background about me and badminton. I’ve played when I was really young with my dad. Started to play competitive when I reached high school in grade 8. Never really trained hard because I thought my skill would just be good enough and now I regret it…therefore never really committed to it.

This tournament was the first tournament I’ve played in about a year. I usually don’t join these tournaments because they play on gym floors and I am not used to it. To be honest I wasn’t expecting to get that far in the tournament because of two factors: I usually don’t do well in BV tournaments, and second, I was playing with a partner that I have never played with before.

Turns out we came SECOND place out of 32 teams! I was surprised myself, I played the most consistent tournament ever and I was proud of myself and my partner. And want to thank all the supporters that came out and cheered us on. You know who you are! The first match was the toughest actually because of the nerves and we were getting used to playing with each other. The second match we lost our first set then changed up our strategy to a more defensive counter attack style and it worked. That got us all the way to the finals. After a hard fought match, I gotta admit I was a bit too tired and didn’t have as much pop in my shots. But oh well. Satisfied with the results, would’ve loved to get the winner’s tshirt. Always next time!
